What is Social Skills Training?

Social skills training
teaches foundational skills that are required for effective social interaction, communication, and social problem-solving in everyday situations. The goal of social skills training is to enhance an individual's social compentence and interactions across various settings.

Social skills training is provided by our registered psychologists through individualized counseling sessions that are focused on helping strengthen and improve interpersonal skills through psychoeducation, instruction, modelling, role-playing and providing feedback. 

Some of the skills that are taught in social skills taining include: 
  • Psychoeducation on social skill areas (e.g., eye contact, appropriate personal space, etc.)
  • Starting and maintaining conversations 
  • Active listening 
  • Understanding and responding to nonverbal cues
  • Navigating various social situations
  • Making eye contact ​and maintaining appropriate personal space.  
  • Problem-solving in social situations and interactions.
